This carefully curated tour by Bangladesh Tours and Adventures includes a scenic train ride to Srimangal, where you will journey through the Lawachara rainforest in search of the elusive Hulk Gibbon, the only monkey species in Bangladesh.
You will have the opportunity to cycle along the tea trail (with prior arrangements), interact with local ethnic communities such as the Khasia, Manipuri and Garo, and explore their traditional lifestyle and crafts. Enjoy a unique cultural experience with a home-cooked tribal lunch, and if possible, visit one of our community-run tribal schools run by our local hosts.

Itinerary
Your expedition will begin at around 6:00 AM with a meeting with our guide at your hotel for a scenic 5–6-hour drive to Srimangal, the heart of Bangladesh’s tea country. Alternatively, the train journey offers a captivating journey through tranquil countryside, vibrant villages and green paddy fields – a unique way to experience the rhythm of rural life.
Upon arrival at lunchtime, you will be welcomed at a tranquil eco-resort nestled amidst tea and rubber plantations. After some refreshments, we will set off to explore the emerald green tea gardens, taking a peaceful walk through the gardens where time seems to slow down. The monsoon season colors the landscape in deep shades of green, making it an ideal time to visit.
Start the day early with a guided trek through Lawachara National Park, home to rare Hoolock Gibbons and rich birdlife. Visit a Khasia village inside the forest, and later explore a local school supported by Bangladesh Tours and Adventures our community-based tourism initiative to meet students from indigenous communities.
Visit the Manipuri village to experience traditional handloom weaving and enjoy a delicious Manipuri lunch in a local home. In the afternoon, cycle through the scenic tea valleys and end the day at Baikka Beel, a bird sanctuary, to watch migratory birds and a stunning sunset. Overnight in Sreemangal.
After breakfast, we begin our drive back to Dhaka (approx. 5 hours), stopping along the way to explore the rich cultural heritage of Sonargaon, the ancient capital of Bengal.
Visit a batik village to see the traditional wax-resistant dyeing process. Explore the beautifully restored Sardar Bari Palace and the historic Panam City, an abandoned town of Hindu merchants with stunning colonial architecture.
